Skype on Mobile has to Wait 5th February 2009
|
| Marin Perez on September 29th, 2006
Those itching to use Skype on their mobile phones may have to wait for while, as CEO Niklas Zennstrom revealed in an interview with a Finnish newspaper that Skype is running into “technical obstacles” with making its service available on cell phones. This comes as a blow for the eBay-owned company, as Skype on Mobile was poised to help the company generate revenue from many seeking to make cheap international calls from their mobile devices.
While some mobile devices running Microsof's Windows Mobile operating system can use Skype services, these represent fewer than 10 percent of cell phones sold. Zennstrom said he can't “give a timetable” on when Skype-enabled cell phones from manufactur... |

Vonage Suspense May End Sooner Than Expected 5th February 2009
|
| Robert Poe on April 26th, 2007
Vonage may have less breathing room than previously thought as a result of a court's decision to hold hearings on its appeal in 60 days, rather than in the year or two the company was expecting. Ironically, the accelerated appeal resulted from a request by Vonage's own attorneys to expedite the process, the company claims. At the hearing, the appeals court will decide whether or not to uphold the March 8th, 2007 verdict that found Vonage guilty of infringing three VoIP patents held by Verizon.
According to a Vonage spokesperson, ... |

Verizon officially pulls plug on VoiceWing VoIP service 19th March 2009
|
Verizon VoiceWing customers say they’ve received letters saying the company is pulling the plug on the VoIP service.
The notice, dated Jan. 16, 2009, says service will be terminated after March 31, 2009. There’s no mention of offering to transition the service to another Verizon offering, like the forthcoming FiOS Digital Voice, or whatever VoIP service might be bundled/attached to the Verizon Hub VoIP phone.
DSLReports says VoiceWing is a re-branded version of Delta Three’s VoIP service, so this is likely also a preventive damage control move given Delta Three’s ongoing financial problems. Verizon stopped marketing VoiceWing a long time ago.
Since this move is coming as the Verizon Hub VoIP desktop phone and FiOS Digital Voice roll out, there is likely to be an announcement of an “un-FiOS” branded VoIP service available to support the Hub.
