Verizon Wireless Introduces VoIP "Hub," Verizon Communications Shuts VoIP Service

Verizon Wireless will on February 1 begin offering the $200 Internet "Hub" phone. When connected to a broadband router, the phone, which features an eight-inch color touch screen, will provide Internet VoIP and other services. For $34.99 a month, users will get unlimited North American calling as well as text messaging, Web browsing, streaming video and applications including calendar, weather and traffic. They will also be able to push contact information to their Verizon Wireless handsets and exchange text, picture and video messages with Verizon Wireless mobile phones. At almost the same time, Verizon Communications announced it will shut down its VoiceWing Internet VoIP service as of March 31.
